Amalie Flam
October 21, 2017

Amalie Flam is an eighth grader at Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School in Croton-on-Hudson. She has been busy over the past year playing soccer, taking multiple dance classes every week and volunteering at the Croton-Cortlandt Food Pantry.

Amalie is a kind and giving person, and working at the food pantry is a natural extension of that gift. She particularly enjoys interacting with the clients directly, when she helps them carry their goods to their cars, a meaningful part of the experience.

Ben Gardos

November 11, 2017

Ben Gardos is a 7th Grader at PVC. He is a fun, supportive and caring brother to both his big sister, Maya, and little sister, Dalia. Temple Israel has been a central part of Ben's life since he was just a baby! He has so many special memories from his years in the preschool and the CJL. His life is busy with many activities including soccer, lacrosse, destination imagination, and band. Ben plays the saxophone and bass guitar.  He can often be found checking his fantasy football team rosters, reading, or binging on YouTube. Ben loves his family time on Fire Island and is looking forward to his 6th summer at Surprise Lake Camp. Ben has already collected over 100 pounds of clothing for the upcoming brotherhood Midnight Run.

Ben has approached the process of becoming a Bar Mitzvah with great interest and a healthy dose of procrastination!  He is enjoying exploring all the themes in his Torah portion. We are so very grateful for all the support and guidance he has received from Rabbi Jaech and Cantor Ellerin. Becoming a Bar Mitzvah, or son of the commandments, means so much to Ben. We couldn't be more proud of him at this special moment in time on his spiritual journey.
