Dear Families,
I'm sure you've had time to admire the beautiful Shabbat candlesticks & tray your child brought home today. I hope he/she told you that the aluminum tops are hot-glued on and should be permanent so that the sand painting doesn't shift. The candlesticks can be reused each Shabbat. If the aluminum gets too waxy to clean, just add your own drip cup or fashion one out of aluminum foil on top of the one that's glued down.
We continue to practice Shabbat blessings in class, so please help your child chant them when you can. I'm reattaching the blessings for you, transliterated & translated.
Today the students made a beautiful Shabbat tablecloth that will go into our class Shabbat Box. We'll be creating more items for the box in the coming weeks.
In honor of Veterans Day, our class participated in a CJL project to make Chanukah cards for soldiers who will be unable to spend the holiday with their families and friends. Please ask your child to tell you about the card he/she made.
Our students have suggested the SPCA and Operation Respect: Don't Laugh At Me as organizations they will suggest for the temple Mitzvah fair. Please ask your child to tell you about those organizations. We watched a youtube video of Peter, Paul & Mary singing the song that influenced Operation Respect, an organization that Peter Yarrow founded. (http://operationrespect.org/classroom-lessons/) It creates & provides an anti-bullying curriculum for schools.
Please ask your child to tell you what they're learning in Hebrew Through Movement. A few examples: lashevet-sit, lakume-stand, lichpotz-jump,lalechet-walk, listovev-turn around.
Have a wonderful week!
L'hitraot,
Cherie & Ilana
